13th September, 2012- Wasion Group (HKEx: 3393), a leading provider of smart measurement equipment and integrated solutions in the PRC, is pleased to announce that it has entered into a joint venture contract with Siemens, whereby Smart Metering Solutions (Changsha) Co. Ltd. (施維智能計量系統服務(長沙)有限公司) was established. The newly founded company will provide innovative solutions for meter data management software, as well as operational services with high added value in the PRC market. Such offerings will help customers to enhance their operational efficiency. 

Wasion and Siemens will provide the joint venture with exclusive technologies and management experiences on solutions for meter data management software. At the same time, Wasion will assist the joint venture to gain an international footing by providing related technological support on the development and manufacturing of power meter, gas meter, water meter and heat meter.

The business segments of solutions for meter data management software and operational services will mainly target at the PRC market, while the sales channels of Wasion and Siemens will both play a vital role in expanding our business footprint. 

For the export business of the meter products, through the establishment of the joint venture, Wasion Group will be able to leverage on the worldwide network of Siemens to broaden its overseas meter business rapidly.

The Chairman of the Wasion Group, Mr. Ji Wei said “Since May 2010, a strategic cooperation framework agreement was signed between Wasion and Siemens. The acquisition of this certificate signifies that the Prepaid Power Meter of Wasion Group has already conformed to the requirements of the State Grid of Indonesia in the aspects of “Factory Production “and “Product Quality Control” and beneficial for our business development in Southeast-Asia market.

The smart meter iMeter310 which is developed independently by Wasion Group has successfully passed the DLMS/COSEM technical standard test and examination, and obtained the DLMS certificate issued by DLMS User’s Association. It signifies that the construction of smart meter platform has made important advancement, which is of great significance for our group to race to control the technical commanding point and market opportunities. Besides, great support has been given for the establishment of international brand and getting access to the international market.

As one of the most advanced and widely-applied technical standards in the field of international smart metering, the DLMS/COSEM has been adopted as IEC 62056 international standard by International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), which is also served as an interlinked and interoperated protocol specification that can be applied for various manufacturers, various metering types, diversified communication channels, and can satisfy all demands of the energy meters. The capability to develop the DLSM/COSEM technical standard product represents that a company’s technical R&D capacity has achieved the advanced level in this domain.

Wasion Group attaches great importance to the research and development of smart meter and sets up specified R&D team to design the global-oriented DLMS standard product, so as to provide strong technical support for the expansion of international market.

Since the release of Energy Efficiency Directive 2006/32/EC in 2006, in which all members in EU are required to take effective measures to reduce the energy utilization efficiency of terminal users, the EU countries have made plans for and launch the program of Residential Smart Metering and System. For instance, the Dutch government intends to replace 7 million residential energy meters with smart meters by 2013, which has already been involved in its Energy-saving Scheme. Moreover, the energy meter and gas meter have been listed into compulsory Automatic Meter Reading program. According to Dutch Smart Meter Requirement, the smart meter should adopt DLSM/COSEM communication protocol, which is considered as the most advanced international standard. In addition, the smart metering system carried out by Electricité de France(EDF) has confirmed to give priority to DLS/COSEM communication protocol.
